    Environmental Toxin Test

    Get Quote

The Environmental Toxicant Profile is a functional assessment used to evaluate exposure to a comprehensive range of environmental chemicals that accumulate in the body through everyday contact with food, water, personal care products, household items, plastics, and air.

Modern environments expose individuals to hundreds of synthetic chemicals on a daily basis. Many of these compounds are known endocrine disruptors, neurotoxins, and carcinogens — yet exposure typically goes undetected in standard medical investigations because symptoms are diffuse, develop gradually, and are rarely linked to a chemical cause without targeted testing. Identifying the specific toxicants present in the body is a foundational step in developing an effective, personalised detoxification and treatment protocol.

The Environmental Toxicant Profile measures 27 metabolites across 9 toxicant classes using LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry) technology, from a single urine sample. Analysis is performed in a CLIA-licensed and CAP-accredited laboratory. Results are available within 5 to 10 business days of the laboratory receiving the sample.

    What The Test Evaluates

The Environmental Toxicant Profile measures 27 urinary metabolites across the following toxicant classes:

    Phthalates (5 metabolites):

    • MEP (Monoethylphthalate), MBP (Monobutyl phthalate), MEHP (Mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalate), MEOHP (Mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate), MiBP (Monoisobutyl phthalate)
    • Found in food packaging, toys, vinyl flooring, shampoos, and hundreds of everyday products; classified as endocrine disruptors with documented links to reproductive, neurological, and respiratory harm

    Bisphenols (2 metabolites):

    • Bisphenol A (BPA) — leaches from food and beverage containers, dental sealants, and water pipes; linked to cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunction, neurotoxicity, and hormone-dependent cancers
    • Bisphenol S (BPS) — a BPA replacement found in thermal receipts, cosmetics, and food containers; emerging evidence shows comparable endocrine-disrupting and developmental effects

Volatile Organic Compounds / VOCs (7 metabolites):

    • Xylene (from paints, varnishes, vehicle exhaust, cigarette smoke)
    • Styrene/Ethylbenzene (from plastics, food containers, building materials, tobacco smoke)
    • Benzene (from petroleum products, motor fuels, industrial solvents)
    • Acrylonitrile (from acrylic fibres, carpeting, plastic food containers, cigarette smoke)
    • 1-Bromopropane (from solvents used in metal cleaning, foam gluing, dry cleaning)
    • 1,3-Butadiene (from synthetic rubber, car tyres, combustion exhaust, cigarette smoke)
    • Ethylene Oxide / Vinyl Chloride (from plastics, PVC, sterilising agents, tobacco smoke)

    Parabens (4 metabolites):

    • Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, plus p-hydroxybenzoic acid
    • Preservatives widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food products; associated with endocrine disruption and links to breast cancer risk

    Pesticides (4 metabolites):

    • Atrazine mercapturate — metabolite of atrazine herbicide used in agriculture and landscaping; linked to endocrine disruption, reproductive harm, and increased cancer risk
    • 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid (2,4-D) — one of the most widely used herbicides globally; associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and endocrine disruption
    • 3-Phenoxybenzoic Acid (3-PBA) — metabolite of pyrethroid insecticides used in agriculture, households, and veterinary medicine; linked to neurodevelopmental and cardiovascular harm
    • Diethylphosphate (DEP) — metabolite of organophosphate pesticides; associated with neurological deficits and neurodegenerative risk

    Glyphosate (1 metabolite):

    • The world's most widely used herbicide; detectable through dietary intake, water, and indoor dust exposure; elevated levels consistently found in individuals consuming conventional versus organic diets

    Triphenyl Phosphate (1 metabolite):

    • Flame retardant found in furniture, electronics, textiles, nail polish, and cosmetics; linked to altered thyroid function and decreased reproductive health markers

    Acrylamide (1 metabolite):

    • Formed in starchy foods cooked at high temperatures, and present in cigarette smoke; linked to kidney, ovarian, and uterine cancer risk, and cardiovascular harm

    Perchlorate (1 metabolite):

    • Industrial chemical found in fireworks, explosives, and rocket fuel; enters food and water supply through irrigation contamination; inhibits thyroid uptake of iodine, with particular risk to pregnant women, infants, and children

    Oxybenzone (1 metabolite):

    • UV-filtering chemical in many sunscreen products; absorbs through skin and placenta; associated with endocrine disruption and developmental effects

    How The Test Works

The test requires a single urine sample, collected at home using the provided kit. No blood draw, hair sample, or multiple collection points are required. The sample is then sent to the certified laboratory for LC-MS/MS analysis. Results are delivered to Dr. Menka Gupta within 5 to 10 business days of the laboratory receiving the sample.

    Who This Test Is For

This test is used for individuals presenting with or concerned about:

    • Unexplained fatigue, brain fog, or cognitive decline
    • Mood changes, anxiety, or behavioural disturbances
    • Headaches or neurological symptoms without a clear cause
    • Hormonal imbalances or endocrine disruption
    • Fertility concerns or reproductive health issues
    • Metabolic conditions including obesity, insulin resistance, or elevated cardiovascular risk
    • Autoimmune conditions or immune dysfunction
    • Respiratory conditions including asthma or COPD
    • Regular use of plastic food packaging, conventional personal care products, or non-organic produce
    • Occupational exposure to industrial chemicals, solvents, pesticides, or plastics
    • Developmental concerns in children, including ADHD or autism spectrum presentations
    • Proactive assessment of toxic burden as part of a longevity or functional medicine evaluation

Chronic low-level exposure to environmental toxicants is one of the most underinvestigated contributors to complex, treatment-resistant chronic disease. This test provides the clinical specificity needed to identify which toxicants are present, and in what concentrations, forming the foundation for a targeted detoxification protocol.
